The Unlikely Candidates
The Unlikely Candidates
The past three years have been nothing short of tumultuous for The Unlikely Candidates. They have found a quality balance between promoting, song writing, touring amid professional setbacks. The boys of TUC: Cole Male (rhythm guitar), Kyle Morris (sings), Brent Carney (lead guitar), Jared Hornbeek (bass) and Kevin Goddard (hits things) have braved major label politics, being robbed on tour and basically every pitfall you can throw at a band .. and have survived. This should surprise no one since the roots of this 5 piece took shape between an underage Cole and Kyle in a youth detention center for taking automobiles that do not belong to them in TX. Ending up at the same high school later that year, Morris and Male soon threw themselves into a collaboration rooted in their mutual love of gritty garage rock and the guitar-fueled pop of British Invasion bands. Now, ten years later the Fort Worth-based five-piece brings a refined indie sensibility to the raw energy of rock music. In the past year the band has written over 100 songs. Traversing the United States and Europe working with the likes of Gregg Alexander and Dave Bassett. The bands current single, “Your Love Could Start a War” was written with Gregg Wattenberg in NYC at Quad Studios this past summer (2015). Being fans of all genres of music , Hip Hop in particular, the legend of Quad Studios didn’t escape the band. Tupac was ambushed, shot and robbed upon entering the studio in 1994…the spark that launched the East Coast/West Coast beef that lasted several summers in rap music. The spirit of Tupac was alive that day as the citizens of New York took to the street to protest police brutality. The band took to the street to make their voices heard and it awakened an aggressive social consciousness in the group's artistry and songwriting. Don’t misunderstand, TUC has not abandoned its gritty rock roots, their first offering in 2016 “Your Love Could Start A War”, solidifies that, while they simultaneously present their initial opus, "Follow My Feet", to radio in England. With over 100 songs to choose from, odds are that you are going to be hearing one of them in a country near you.
