Chris Cab
Chris Cab
Cris Cab leaps off a couch, playfully taunting a friend during a game of FIFA. It's a familiar scene for many his age, though not for the 20-year-old whose resume reads like this: mentored by Pharrell Williams; recording partner of Wyclef Jean; support act to O.A.R., Matisyahu, T-Pain and Gym Class Heroes; and proud owner of over 7 million YouTube views. He doesn't take much time off.

Still, Cris' success is not defined by his age. These accolades would be impressive for any artist. Cris Cab's musical promise is framed by the sponge-like enthusiasm with which he approaches recording, the texture of his voice echoing through concert halls and headsets, and his fresh fusion of pop, reggae, and soul.

Cris Cab was born to Cuban parents in Miami, Florida. By the age of five he begged his parents for a guitar, wanting both to best a friend at the school talent show and learn the James Bond theme song. As he practiced and grew older, he dug through old records: The Police, Beatles, and Stones. He spent summers in the Bahamas with his family. His musical palate widened: Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, and Gregory Isaacs.

At 14, Cris' father bought him his first studio sessions. He became a musician with his feet in multiple words: old and new, the States and the Caribbean. By chance meeting, Cris played his early demos for Pharrell Williams. Pharrell was impressed, but Cris„ talents were raw and unpolished. Heeding the super-producer's advice, Cris practiced relentlessly, focused on songwriting, and played any gig he was allowed into. Three years later, Cris and Pharrell met again. This time, Pharrell was sold, citing "He's just getting warmed up, but this kid is the future."

In 2011, Cris signed a management deal. He released a series of videos, soon becoming popular on blogs from PerezHilton to Billboard. The most successful of these was a cover of Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow," amassing 100,000 views in its first week. The dialogue between Cris and his fans grew exponentially, resulting in the well- received EP, Foreword, and its original single, "Good Girls."

"Good Girls" brought Cris a broader audience, including Wyclef Jean. The two met while Cris was on tour in New York supporting his release. Wyclef quickly became a second mentor, saying, "Playing with Cris is like drinking water. It just flows."

2012 saw the release of Cris Cab's full-length mixtape, Echo Boom (currently downloaded over 300,000 times). Named for the multi-cultural, wired generation born between 1982 and 1995, Echo Boom featured production from Cris, longtime collaborator PJ McGinnis, Wyclef, Pharrell, Supa Dupes, and 88 Keys.

With this continued momentum, Cris signed with Mercury Records. He released his debut single, "Good Girls (Don't Grow On Trees)." The track, a re-imagined version of his earlier release, was written by Pharrell, produced by Wyclef, and features Big Sean.

On a day like today, Cris Cab's friends are in school, as are his fans. These days the line between the two is increasingly blurred. His generation only knows a world where the relationship between artist and fan is one of transparency and celebrated, mutual interest. Fine by Cris. He was born to be approachable. "My music," he says, "is about shared experience."

J Knack
J Knack
Born October 18, 1990 in Colorado Springs, CO. J Knack started writing music at the age of 12 years old and started pursuing hip hop career at 19. He started with just a rockband mic and a closet for a studio with mainstream instrumentals to rap on. J Knack first started rapping in a duo rap act named Mile High Cliq and made cypher verses over popular rap songs using myspace for uploading. Later on J Knack branched off into a solo career and started contacted local labels and came across Denver indie label Bad Azz Ent. With them he made his first single The Prospect which later was added to his first mixtape Lazy Sunday. After dropping his debut mixtape J Knack began talks with childhood friend Chris Wade (BlackManChris) which included Chris taking over all mastering and original beats made by him. Knack agreed and started working on various projects with various artists. J Knack then released his second mixtape For Those Who Passed Up which included the single Flick Bics featuring his best friend Wes Wade was featured on Colorado Springs' local radio countdown. Momentum was building, BlackManChris took the oppoturnity and created Unheard Of Records with artists working from Florida and Colorado. J Knack is one of the only two artists from Colorado that are on the label. J Knack then took a break for personal reasons for months until he recorded his single Killin' Artists which later landed him his first show at Cervantes in Denver, CO and another spot on the local radio countdown. Though the momentum was high, J Knack had other matters to take care of for another 4 month span. Summer of 2012 J Knack finally made a comeback with his third mixtape Instrumental Cruelty and branched yet another hot single titled Colorado Fridays with label teammate Unit(e) which later got him a spot at the Coast 2 Coast Mixtapes Industry Mixer in Los Angeles, CA. Knack took advantage of the oppoturnity and met with producers. There, he met Flossy at Whoo Bangin Records who granted him to expose a single to a Japanese market. J Knack agreed. Knack would use his single from his forth mixtape Prophecy titled Ratchet Is A Habit Featuring his music mentor BlackManChris. This song would be J Knack's first official copyrighted song. Knack continued to do shows in Denver and released his forth mixtape Prophecy, his first mixtape with an album kind of approach with all original beats. J Knack has accomplished a lot but he is far from over. His future consists of dropping a full length album next year that will be available on iTunes and many projects to continue his career. J Knack has a knack for making catchy, orginal, rude-mouthed songs. He claims "It's time a new era sets in"
