The Side Project
The Side Project formed in the summer of 2007 with the feeling of the season radiating from their upbeat melodies. They started as a side project to their former band, Quote the Raven, and when searching for an official name, a close friend suggested they just stick with, The Side Project. Now, just eight months in, the band draws large crowds to small venues, and seems to be a breath of fresh air in the music scene of Colorado as something new and something different. Based out of Littleton Colorado, Jake and Cody Vinton, Max Comer, and Eric Roy are hardly seen these days doing anything else than the band, proving that they don’t intend to slow down anytime soon. In four months they’ve put out two EP’s and are currently professionally recording a full-length album with Chad Hodges. The band plays a type of indie music, influenced by bands like Counting Crows, Bernard Fanning, Guster, local band The Heyday, Third Eye Blind, Bedouin Soundclash, The Rocket Summer, and The Steve Miller Band. With Jake on the drums and main vocals, Cody on the bass and backing vocals, Max on the guitar, and Eric on the piano, the band seems to have a new song every week with hopes that they never play the same set twice, giving fans something new to look forward to at every show. They play lighthearted and easy-to-listen to melodies, with the idea in mind that the listener leaves in a better mood than before. They use catchy hooks and people have called the songs “addicting”. Using bright colors and happy pictures as inspiration, the optimistic songs really help reveal the band’s personality as vibrant and fun.
